When visiting Lyme Regis in Dorset I came across a large tree trunk that had been washed up on the beach. I found it on a beach to the west side of Lyme heading towards West Bay. The beach itself is tiny and therefore the tree trunk had a presence that was attracting attention. The sea had worn it away on parts, exposing patterns and textures on the trunk. I kept forgetting that it was a tree and not a huge creature lying there. I decided to draw it and during this process its character has developed further as I continue to see images of creatures and other strange beings within the tree.
